This sock pattern comes from Lucy Neatby's Cool Socks, Warm Feet. It turns out to be the kind of project where you watch a very simple texture turn into something much more interesting than you thought it would.

Given the nature of the stitch and the relative inflexibility of the fabric it generates, however, I recommend considering a slightly larger size than you might normally consider for yourself -- especially if you like longer cuffs for your socks.
