Want
a quick project? Have some nice yarn but not a lot of yardage? The Skinny
Angel Scarf lets you take advantage of both. In this case "Angel"
comes from the name of the Lorna's Laces angora blend yarn, Angel. I bought
4 skeins, and each skein only had 50 yards. Since it's soft and snuggly
yarn, I wanted to make something that I could wear close to my skin.
I tried several lace patterns with this yarn and it really didn't want anything to do with them. So I settled on something simple -- stockinette. It shows off the striping in this hand dyed yarn quite well, I think. So it's essentially a skinny scarf with a little ruflly that can be adapted to any worsted weight yarn. Gauge: 4.5 stitches/inch Cast on 36 stitches. I recommend the crochet cast on because it looks like a cast off edge and it's nice and stretchy for the ruffle. Knit 8 rows in stockinette, starting with a knit side row. and ending with a purl side row. (You can make the ruffle as long as you want by adding more rows, just be sure to end with a purl side row). K2Tog across entire 9th row. Row 1: K across all stitches Row 2: K1, purl to last stitch, K1 Row 3: P1, knit to last stitch, P1 Row 4: P across all stitches Knit the above 4 rows to whatever length you want the scarf to be or whatever length your yarn permits. The pattern above is just modified stockinette with a little edge that attempts to keep it from curling completely. You can probably omit the edge stitches without any problem, or add more if you want a flatter look. Make sure you leave enough yarn to do the end ruffle. End with a purl side (i.e. row 2 or row 4). On the next row, increase one stitch in every stitch to bring the total stitch count back up to 36. Knit 7 more rows in Stockinette (or equal to what you did on the starting edge), ending with knit side row. Bind off stitches purlwise so that the edge doesn't roll outward. Do happy dance with scarf! |
