Two trips out of town later.... and I have finished all of the pieces for Audrey! I knit the front of the sweater while in Chicago, and the second sleeve in DC. Now I have to seam her, knit the neckband, and sew it on. (Not inconsiderable tasks, I know!) I have been doing a lot of KIP-ing on the second half of this sweater; Audrey has now been knit in both Houston airports, on the Chicago El, the DC metro, and in various coffee shops in both cities. Here's hoping I will have a finished Audrey photo before too long...
I'm knitting Audrey for my daughter, also Audrey, and she found this blog fo me. It's my very first attempt to blog or chat on the internet (email has been a way of life for several years). I have enjoyed looking at all the Audrey pics and reading the different suggestions for approaching the knitting.
So far I have completed about half of one front (or back) but I have a sad problem which I don't think has been mentioned by anyone. My Audrey is coming out too fluffy! My hands are rather dry and it seems I've been forgetting the fingertips when I apply handcream. So I've been giving them lots of intensive treatment and wearing rubber gloves for cleaning, gardening etc. which has resulted in some improvement (they are 60 years old, used a lot and have always tended towards dry).
Does anyone know any other ways around this problem (that is, apart from treating my hands)? I'm planning to start again in an attempt to get all of Audrey looking the way she should but it will be slow work if I have to have perfect fingertips every time I want to knit. (Becky's Audrey as shown on her website is a marvel of even stitches and smooth finish).
Yesterday I got my act together and made sure that everyone I have a record of finishing in the last month or so got a label posted to them. I know this took me a long time. It wasn't intended that way, and I hope that Felicia, Karen, Johnanne (your label is coming from Becky), Christine, Andrea, Martha and Ann don't think that I've intentionally slighted them. Anyone who knows me (and my family) understands that I have a genetic pre-disposition to avoid post offices. I'm still in therapy for it and getting better, but I appreciate everyone's patience.
Here's an update the map (someday I should calculate the electoral college score for Audrey) for the US:
create your own personalized map of the USA
And now they have a map for Canada!
create your own personalized map of Canada
And a better one for Europe:

And finally, here's the whole world of Audrey:

A big congratulations to Felicia (British Columbia), Karen (Ontario), Johanne (England), Christine (New Jersey), Andrea (Maryland), Martha (Florida), and Ann (Connecticut) Your labels hit the open road yesterday. Here's the overall tally:

That's a total of 36 Audreys that are gracing the world. How cool is that?
And for anyone who wonders what is up with my sweater... well, I need to rip that collar off, remove one of the repeats and sew it back on again. With all the new winter projects I want to start, Audrey has taken a bit of a backburner to other things. Once I get most of my Christimas knitting out of the way, she'll probably make it back into the rotation. Especially since I'll probably be inspired by the new folks who have joined up lately!
Howdy Audrey A-Long-ers! I'm new to the group, but have been reading this blog almost since it got started. I cast on for Audrey back in September, and have finished the back and one sleeve. I'm using Calmer in "Zeal" (the deep purple that I know several others are using, too) - I got it on sale when it was discontinued over the summer. It has been great being able to read all the tips and advice on this site while knitting the pieces - especially as regards the darts in the front/back pieces (which I'm doing according to the pattern). My goal: to have this sweater finished before I leave for Christmas, so that I can wear it while I'm spending the holiday with my family in NJ. Wish me luck! :)
For anyone out there who is still working on Audrey, or still wants to participate in this knit-a-long, I am pleased to announce that I have found the Audrey labels! Of course, I found them while I was looking for something else that has gone missing. Apparently there is some great balance of missing things in my house that needs to be maintained.
Label distribution will now resume!
