Away on Business

Yep... tomorrow moring at a way too early time I get on an airplane at Midway airport and take off for a two day business trip to fabulous Minneapolis, MN. I'm there for about 36 hours, so in addition to doing business and catching up with some old dear friends, I'm also hoping to get to some yarn stores. Here's the two my hostess has suggested:

Linden Hills Yarn & Textile Designs Ltd
2720 W 43 St MINNEAPOLIS, MN 55410

Creative Fibers
5416 Penn Ave S Minneapolis.

Creative Fibers has weaving classes... I need to find someplace near me in Chicago where I can try out weaving. For some strange reason, I have been developing a desire to learn how to weave. No matter where I get to, I'll put up a review after I get back.

I'm also hoping that I'll get the front of my tank top done on the trip. I've only got an inch and a half before the armhole shaping. Since the front looks just like the back, I'll wait until its assembled to post more pictures.

And now I have to face a pretty serious decision: What project do I take with me to France? John and I leave for the Cote d'Azure on Saturday afternoon. and I have to decide between Charlotte's Web and the little blue lace tank top from Interweave Knits (you can see it here). Opinions?

I'd vote for taking the shawl. I've been told they make great travel projects.

Ditto on the shawl. Plus you'll love working on it. Copy tha tpattern and take a highlighter.

As for weaving, you know Matt's learned how over a year ago and we have a loom and other equipment already, and the new place will have a room dedicated to weaving and spinning, right? (evil grin)

Hi Theresa! Nice blog, and I really love your choice of projects. That little eyelet sweater looks fabulous on you....nice job! I would take the shawl on vacation...just get a head start on it before you leave.

I just went to mexico in May and took socks to knit on the plane. Well, I knit for a couple of hours on the flight, and then turned the heel in the hotel on the 1st day (so I wouldn't lose my place). Then it sit in the bag until I got home. What I'm saying is don't expect to get a lot done--there's too much that's new and exciting on your trip. That being said I vote for the tank top because it's more portable and cotton is cooler. HAVE FUN (I'm jealous...)

The Yarnery is also a good shop to stop in when you go to the Twin Cities. It is in St. Paul on Grand Avenue (near a bunch of artsy coffee shops and other types of cool stores). You can find information about its location from www.knittinguniverse.com or from the Stockist list at www.knitrowan.com or at the back of a Rowan mag. Enjoy your trip.

just cause i want to see shawl pictures i want you to take that on your way, but i wonder too if it would be a fun traveling piece. whatever you chose i look forward to your traveling report.

I second the vote that the Yarnery is a great LYS. It's in such a great neighborhood in St. Paul (Grand and Victoria). The store has a great selection of yarns, and a nice staff. It's a bit small -- "cozy" describes it perfectly. When I'm in town, I like to stop by the Yarnery and then go next door to Cafe Latte and grab a big ole slice of cheesecake! Mmmm... Yarn and cheesecake. Heaven!

Hi Theresa!

May I pipe up with a vote about your dominant colour in your shawl?

If you're going for a very autumny look, I vote for the p508, the colour on the far right of the photograph.

Enjoy your time in France!

Miranda

I'm having problems displaying your style sheet - maybe because I'm running safari on OSX?
