The Back of Banff Completed

I'm making progress on Banff. Here's the back ready to be spritzed and blocked. I haven't gone too far yet because I'm still not sure that I want to block the ribbing all the way out. Is there any advice from someone who has already worked on this sweater? I want oversized, but not a tent. The finished models I've seen all look blocked out to the dimensions in the schematic, so I pinned the back down that way.

I'm better than 3/4 of the way through the front. Perhaps tomorrow I will mark that little victory.

I'm quite taken with the color. It really does look as if it was a lighter garment splashed with wine. I'm still trying to decide if the place where I joined the second ball of yarn is noticeable. It is, I think, but not so much that it causes me any distress. The ribbing masks a little of it.

I'm already getting excited about wearing this sweater!

I updated my gallery with my recently finished projects and was surprised to find that I only have 3 knitting projects in my rotation right now: Banff, LoTech and a pair of socks. That's a mighty low count for me. But it feels like a good place. It gives me room for a Misti Alpaca scarf or another pair of socks for John. Or to swatch for Rogue. Or to put another Red Line together. I just love the feeling of having endless possibilities.

i would say don't pin the ribbing out, just let it form itself once it's on you. of the finished pics i've seen, the ones where the ribbing was blocked look huge and boxy and the others look better.

I just started Banff in Cascade 128 Tweed, and I wasn't even planning on blocking it, since it's going to be a 'cozy sweater' and I didn't want to overstretch the ribbing. Of course, I'm also trying to avoid TOO much ease, making the S-M when I'm usually an XL.

I knew you'd catch up with me!

I agree with Carolyn that the ribbing shouldn't be blocked out much. This sweater already has those huge sleeves...I'm hoping to retain at least a little fit in the body.

Good luck! See you tomorrow.

Luurve it! That color is so "wine and roses." Mmmmmm. Also, where did you get your blocking board--it looks like your piece is spot on!

I blocked out the ribbing to the measurement and I like it. I blocked out the sleeve ribbing too, but let the middle, decreased part do what it likes.

I've seen Jenna's (the designer) and she didn't reblock it after washing and it looks good that way too. It might depend on how much it springs together on you.

And I'm a fair bit larger than you so the extra blocking works for my frame (Jenna is more your size--from what I can tell).

If you don't like it blocked, you can always re-wet it!

I usually leave ribbing unblocked, but sometimes I do block, depending on how fitted I want it to be.

Banff is looking great. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Not knowing where you joined the two skeins, I can't tell where the join is, so I don't think you need to worry over much.

I vote for no blocking on the ribbing. It looks like a wider rib combination. This finished garment could really use a little shape from that ribbing. the Manos looks great unblocked anyway - it is such a forgiving yarn. Maybe a little steam press with a cloth over top on the stocking stitch and you'll be good to go. The Manos is a lovely choice.
