Acts of Kindness

The world knitting community is a remarkable place. Not long after I joined the blog ring, I got a special surprise in the mail from Emma, my very kind and encouraging blog neighbor. (It is one of those amazing and special magicks of the ring that Emma and I still have adjoining blogs even almost two years after joining the ring. She has blog number 178 and I'm 179.) You just don't expect people across the ocean that you have never met to send you something to encourage you to try something new, like sock knitting. Yet one day, in January of 2003, I found myself surprised by just such an experience. And to be honest with you, even though I know knit bloggers, and knitters in general, to be kind, generous souls, I never figured that the same wonderful thing would happen to me again.

But yet it did.

Every evening after I get home from work, the first stop I make is the mailbox. Lately I've been hoping that the latest Rowan would show up (has anyone in the US with a subscription received their copy yet?). But what I found on Friday was much nicer than any Rowan mag:

A Special Gift from Karen

This lovely sock yarn (Lang Jawoll Color) in harvest berry and pumpkin colors with just a little bit of sparkle, came from Karin, one of the participants in the Audrey Knit-Along (you can see her lovely finished sweater here). She sent it along because she enjoyed her Audrey experience. I am really very touched! The yarn is an immigrant from Switzerland. I will definitely try to show it a good time here in the US. It's wonderfully soft and will certainly knit up into a wonderful pair of socks! Thank you so much, Karin! You brightened up the end of my week. I've had a great deal of fun hosting the Knit-Along. It makes me feel good to know that others have enjoyed participating.

Every time I visit my favorite blog reads I feel so thankful for the knitting world and friendships that have been opened to me. My life has been enriched because of it. And you, dear Theresa, have a lot to do with that!

:-)

What a great gift! I love the colorway! On the latest issue of Rowan...I just received my latest Rowan mag in the mail last Thursday. Unfortunately I forgot I still had a subscription and BOUGHT it at a LYS the week before. Ugh!

I am still fairly new to the knitting world so I am consitantly amazed at how kind everyone is. From LYS staff who will drop everything to help you pick out a new project, or aid in your current one, to people that you meet on the subway. There must be something about knitting that brings out the best in people. It's great because it doesn't happen that often in big cities!

It is a lovely community, us cyber-knitters, no?
My Rowan magazine was here when I got back from my trip on Sunday night... just waiting by my door to be pondered. Now I just have to figure out if I want to make any of the designs in it!

I agree with you about the kindness of the knitting community, esp. since I met you through your blog! I got my Rowan mag last week but Lynette just got hers last night.

I'm a blog reader, not a blogger, but I have to concur with Becky's comment. I've met so many interesting & gracious people through their blogs.

I got my Rowan in last week's mail, too. I hope you're more thrilled with the issue than I am. Too much "trendy 1970s" stuff for my liking.

How sweet, what a treat to get a surprise gift! That wool is quite pretty, I hope it'll be for your feet.

There is nothing quite as great as pressies in the mail.

I got my Rowan mag last week, too, but it came as part of a renewal package -- you know, the free gift (yarn and pattern) they give you when you renew. I'm in New York. Hope that helps. Love the blog.

Hi Theresa
I also LOVE the Lang Jawoll Sock Yarns. They do it also in a woll/cotton mix which is just prefect!
A long time, they had only boring man's socks colours for the cottons, but today, you get them also in orange, turquoise, yellow, mixed...
Greetings from Switzerland
Katia
