Thinking About Fall
The weather here in Chicago has been all over the place lately. Last Saturday night, John and I went downtown to take in some of the Viva! Latin Music Festival. It was raining and cold and felt like October instead of August. We felt bad for the performers, since the Petrillo Bandshell doesn't offer visitors any shelter and the crowds were pretty small. Even we didn't stick around as long as we wanted to since we got cold and damp so quickly.
All throughout our time downtown I kept thinking how much happier I would have been if I had had a nice wool sweater underneath my jean jacket. Is it any surprise that I got the back of Salt Peanuts finished up?
It is an interesting coincidence that I finished up the back of this sweater at almost exactly the same time that John finished Doom 3. Hopefully I won't need to convince him to start another video game for me to get the rest of the project finished!
I think it's striking how shapely the back of this sweater looks pinned down on my board, and how shapeless the sweater looks on the model in the magazine. I suspect that the thickness of the fabric will minimize some of the shaping, but I have hopes that it will look a little more flattering on me when I try it on. I think I have a few more curves than the model, at least on my lower half. I hope that will work in my favor!

Your Salt Peanuts is a beautiful colour of purple. And you are right, it does look very shapely on the board. I am sure that it will look wonderful on. It must be a nice break from all that picot edging!
I hadn't realized that Salt Peanuts had any shaping to it, but it's on my wish list... We had just been discussing it's almost frumpiness on that model at Stitch 'n Bitch last week. One gal said that was why she liked and the other was sort of chastizing me for wanting to make it, LOL! Your back looks lovely and may just have to go ahead and make it now!
So, if John "finished" Doom, is he ever going to play it again? Did he do absolutely everything in that game already?
I think that Salt Peanuts is going to be beautiful! I noticed that in the IK, lots of the models are wearing knits in larger sizes. The woman wearing Salt Peanuts looks very small, so I suspect that the cardigan she is wearing may have been a bit big for her.
Dani -- it was definitely a nice break from picot edging! Actually, picot edging probably wouldn't be so bad if I was doing it with something besides Kid Silk Haze!
Kristi -- I decided to make it after looking at the shaping guide in the magazine -- wider on the bottom, somewhat narrower up top, which definitely describes me! When I found the yarn on Elann, I figured it was meant to be!
Claudia -- Once John finished a game, it is most definitely over. He always plays them on the hardest level possible and I've never seen him have any interest in replaying -- unless it is multiplayer deathmatching... and lately he hasn't been very interested in that. There are a few more games on his horizon though... so I'll probably have to find more knitting that I can do in the dark.
Becky -- I agree with you completely, the Salt Peanuts in the book is the same size as the one I am making. If that model is the same size as me, I will eat my copy of the Spring IK! (After I finish the sweater, of course...)
I just finished seaming my Salt Peanuts and hope to be done with weaving in all those damn ends! Mine is pretty big....but cardigans are supposed to be bigger, right? I love the feel of it and the color I chose (the same orange as the model). The only negative is that it's soooo heavy! I think it's got to weigh at least 10 lbs!
Salt Peanuts is looking very pretty! I can't wait to see her done. I think lots of models in the mags wear a bigger size than they should. :-)
what type of blocking board do you have? I always admire your blocking (I often ignore that part of the knitting process all together) That might explain the three sweaters I have that need sewing up
