Escape from Sleeve Island
Well, not really. It's more like a swim out in the lagoon in search of the nearest land, while the cabana boy isn't looking since I'm only finished with Butterfly's first sleeve. But I've been playing a lot of Myst IV Revelation the past couple of days, and that's got my brain fixated on adventure games new and old. I've been playing adventure games since the first text-based Zork games were available for the Apple II+ (want to play them again? Just click here). Another set of adventure games that I really had fun with were the Lucas Arts Monkey Island series. Anyone remember "Escape from Monkey Island"? Consider this post a little tribute to Guybrush and Elaine.
Not too much to say about this sleeve. After heeding all the warnings of too much sleeve length (and noting that my swatch did relax just a tiny bit after I soaked it) I decided to shorten the sleeve by an inch. I like longer sleeves on my sweaters, but I don't like too much fabric getting in the way of my hands when I type, so it seemed like a reasonable compromise.
And now back to indulging in some electronic escapism...

You made it back with a fab sleeve! Hey - remember the movie Escape to Witch Mountain? Loved that Disney film. 70s kitsch at its best.
Fellow Fan of Long Sleeves here! I also prefer my jackets and sleeves to have longer sleeves. My coats and jackets have very long sleeves, past my knuckles, so this way my sweaters don't peek out.
I loved Zork! Thanks for the link and the sleeve looks good too.
I just got off sleeve island too, I'm knitting a sweater for the boy and man oh man do they have long arms!! I couldn't WAIT to get off that island... even though my cabana boy mixed up a darn good Margarita :-)
I think you'll be pleased that you shortened. Good luck!
Monkey Island! We just threw that one away. I'm trying really hard to stay away from computer games since I get addicted and they suck up all my time.
Butterfly looks beautiful. I'm just waiting for my yarn to arrive (and am glad I'm a bit behind so I can follow your progress).
I'm a fan of long sleeves also. Alot of the time I push them up when I get warm & then down they go when I get chilled. Your sleeve looks fab!
Looks Great! Such great colors, too, I can't wait to see the whole thing put together. Maybe the cabana boy can come with you to sleeve island for the next one. But don't spend too long there!
I LOVED the Monkey Island games! (Yes, plural. Did you know they made a sequel? Twas hysterical!)
Ok. Another University of Chicago-trained biologist who knits, I could see. One with a computer-game playing significant other, also possible. But a fellow Zork fan? I have to de-lurk for this.
(I'm not actually University of Chicago-trained, since I'm still in the process. Sigh...)
Love the blog, *love* the Diadomina.

Your butterfly looks beautiful! I love seeing how yours is coming together since mine is in the same colorway. It's like a preview of good things to come :) I like longer sleeves as well, but will probably shorten mine a little as you did. I have one question about the edges. Mine are rolling/curling up quite a bit and I'm concerned about getting them to lie flat. Did yours do that? Did they relax after you blocked the pieces? It's kind of difficult to tell from your photos :)
