Not Quite a Capelet

I was excited before I left for Texas because I knew when I got back to Chicago there would be one more skein of Goddess Phoebe waiting for me (one more than required by the pattern) -- and I was anticipating finishing it up and having a lovely alpaca garment to add to my winter sweater collection.

10 skeins of of Phoebe got me this far:

Goddess Capelet Minus one Shoulder Panel

It looks more complete than it is -- but actually I am one shoulder panel short of being able to get this garment finished. Fortunately, my second call to Ruhama's resulted in another skein of Phoebe in the correct dye lot.

There's one very special feature of this garment. I love the basketweave panel in the center. So much so that I figured I needed to post a close up. The alpaca worked surprisingly well in the cabling department.

That last skein arrived today, so I am very psyched to get this project finished. Hopefully I won't need anymore emergency calls to Ruhamas...

I love that basketweave and the color is gorgeous!

Ditto to Marie's comment. Can't wait to see it finished. Do you normally use more yarn than the pattern recommends?

Wow! That basketweave cable looks gorgeous!

That reminds me of the basketweave pattern in the center of Tuja.

Beautiful basketweave cable and colour.
Teva Durham has/had a pattern for a scarf/stole with an interesting interlocking basketweave closure at the front.Fab in two colours.

Your cabling is gorgeous! I don't have the confidence yet to take on something that beautiful and ambitious. thanks so much also for including the link to the bowknot scarf in your previous post. I have been wanting to make some as holiday gifts but wasn't sure what to call it on google so I could find a pattern.

Chery -- No, usually, I am right on target with recommended yardages, or, if anything under. This pattern has several problems that I found (I emailed the folks at Goddess Yarns and they are forwarding my comments to the pattern designer). I'm waiting until I get it all finished so that I can put them all together in one place for anyone who wants to do this project.

Claudia -- You know, while working on this I had a feeling of deja vu, I just couldn't remember where I'd seen the design element before. Now I remember!

Emma -- Thanks for the scarf link. I like that basket weave in the large scarf format as well. Maybe I'll have to use it again some time in the future with some of the very great stash of yarn I'm building up for scarves.

Sharon -- this project is actually quite easy and that basketweave is very easy to do -- not a bad way to try out cables.
