Bias Scarf Blocked and in the Clear Light of Morning

In contrast to that scrunchy bit of red fluff that appeared on my blog yesterday, here is the Morehouse Merino Bias Scarf after a good blocking. The actual length of this scarf is well over 6 feet now! Amazing how simple garter stitch can mysteriously become lace when this yarn is soaked and blocked. In my hands, Morehouse Merino lace weight yarn definitely grows significantly. It also, if this is possible, gets softer. It goes without saying that it also has remarkable drape.

Since I don't think it's very clear from the large scale pictures I took today and yesterday, these thumbnails link to images of the fabric before and after blocking. I'm hoping that this scarf will make for a nice, light summer accent piece -- a splash of color that doesn't carry too much extra warmth along with it. Hopefully a fitting piece for my first completed garment of the summer season!

Oooh, very pretty. And I don't use the word "pretty" very often. I'm much more likely to say "the role of cyclic salts in the biogeochemical marine cycle"!

Man, I just LOVE blocking lace! It's like the difference between a rosebud (pretty enough) and a full-blown rose--all stretched out and showing off. I nice little miracle. Love it. Your scarf is beautiful.

what size needle did you use, and how many stitches did you start with? It's so very pretty. I have some lace weight yarn here.. would love to make something so simple and have it turn out so beautiful! I am a new knitter, sorry if the questions are silly!

Can I ask what the pre-blocking measurements were? I'm currently working on a morehouse merino lace scarf (in garter stitch) and wondering how big pre-blocking I should make it to get about a 60 inch length. I suppose I could just block on the needles and then reblock, but, I'm lazy...

Really lovely scarf. Thank you for posting close-ups of this yarn, they sold me on it! The Morehouse range of colors is really stunning.
