Only On Maui
Wednesday is "date night" for John and I. Basically, the first night we met was a Wednesday, and for the first month or so, almost every Wednesday night we saw each other. Wednesday just sort of became the night we were doing something that just involved the two of us. No friends, no family, no work, just the two of us and a nice dinner or a movie or some other activity that we both enjoy. It usually means that I really only have something to blog about if I had something done in advance that needed to be caught up on. Or if I've found something that I think will be generally amusing, even if it has nothing to do with knitting. Tonight, after a lovely dinner at Mirai on Division (our favorite Japanese restaurant) I got a few rows of knitting on John's sock, but decided you might be more amused by something we saw on our last day on Maui.

This just made me laugh out loud when I saw it. The Mercedes (an older one to be sure) was parked in front of us at Ho'okipa Beach, a world-renowned place for windsurfing (and it is a gorgeous beach in more ways than one -- its a great place to go to watch windsurfers... these guys have awesome abs and shoulders, girlfriends, and make for very nice watching as they set up or take down their equipment on the beach, they're also pretty cool to watch out on the waves). When I lived in the Chicago suburbs and just about every minivan in existance had one of these "My kid is an honor student at..." stickers.
Only on Maui.... and maybe So Cal.... you've got to have your priorities straight!

Love the bumper sticker. My stepson (who is now a fine A-student in college) had a low period in high school and almost flunked an easy class (and barely passed the rest). He did will on this one final which allowed him to just squeak by for the semester. He came home and said, beaming, "Well, you thought I was going to fail but you were wrong. My final grade was a 64! So there!"
My husband and I pretended to cry with deep emotion and high regard for his amazing achievement, and I vowed to make a bumper sticker that said, "Proud Parent of a D Student at M.U.H.S." (But I never got around to it.)
Also, welcome home. I enjoyed your pictures.
Oh now that is a riot. The skaterboarder is probably more fun to hang around with too
I really enjoyed your posts and pictures of your trip. I haven't been back to Maui in several years and you reminded me of how much I enjoyed the islands.
That's pretty funny! Call it like it is...LOL
I like that one better than the "my kid just beat up your honor student" ones that I used to see in NY. How about "my honor student knits in study hall"? (She is and does!)
A friend of mine shows dogs...she has a bumper sticker that says "My Springer spaniel is smarter than your honer student."
Maui has it's own biodiesel company: http://www.biodiesel.com/
the 300D models of mercedes are super-popular to run biodiesel so the person who drives that car was probably special in more ways than having a rad skater kid...not burning fossil fuels and smelling of french fries.
That's hilarious. But thanks for explaining the context. I've never heard of these bumper stickers before. We Canadians are not a bragging lot.
I would hate it if my parents had a bumper sticker like that.
I have one (from ebay) that says "my siamese cat is smarter than your honor student"... they had dog ones too... so cute....I agree with Tish, there should be knitting ones.
