The Castle, With All Cross Stitching Complete

So, here you have it. I didn't quite meet my goal of getting all the cross-stitching completed over the weekend, but I wasn't too far off, all things considered. Seeing all those little x's and half x's in the form of a complete picture is inspiring for me. It's come at the expense of a great many knit and purl stitches or spinning wheel treadles that might have occured had I not been working on this project, and it's still not complete, but clearly I have met a significant milestone. I will be doing a little victory dance before I start into the large quantity of backstitching that needs to be done in order to give the project its final detailing.

It was a momentous day for another reason as well. I finally got my own personal PayPal account set up. Anyone who has bought one of my felted bag patterns will know that I was using the account that I shared with John and which only had his name on it. I don't have a problem with this personally, but since John and I don't share a last name, I have always worried that this was confusing to people who bought my patterns. I've also wanted to keep track of my own little rainy day/business start up fund. No, I have no plans to start a business anytime soon, but the idea does appeal to me and this seemed like a good way to start saving up should I ever decide to go in that direction.

All this is a long winded way of letting you know that, come Monday, I should be very close to making my Dragon Scale pattern available for sale. Assuming I can figure out if using PayLoadz is the right strategy for me -- it seems kind of expensive and I'm trying to avoid passing on any more costs than I have to to folks who want to buy the pattern. Would you rather pay extra for the convenience of having immediate download or pay less and wait a little bit until I can send you the pattern by email?

Just a quick update, because my comments suggest there's a bit of confusion... I am *not* considering snail mail at all as a distribution method. For a couple of reasons: 1) This pattern is large and I couldn't ship it with regular postage (and having to add 40 cents or more postage, pay for paper and inkjet cartridges, etc. would be more costly than the automated downloads), 2) I am just about the world's worst person at getting to the post office and I don't always have time to go there every day, plus, the post office does, occasionally lose things; 3) I'd have to have separate pricing for international and US buyers because international shipping costs more, and that would mean I'd have a lot more to keep track of.

So... the only methods of receipt are immediate download by a service like PayLoadz or file sent by email by me as soon as I can get to it after the PayPal transaction has cleared.

You read my mind! I was just browsing your blog today to see if I somehow missed the Dragon Scales pattern! Either way would be fine for me, but my printer is acting funny so I think the extra time for a hard copy is fine by me.

I personally wouldn't mind waiting a bit (I'm assuming under normal circumstances this would be a few hours) to get it via email, rather than paying extra. I doubt I would wait until I wanted to start knitting before purchasing the pattern.

I don't mind waiting a bit til the email gets through at all, provided it's not so big our (dial-up) link can't cope with it. Hey, how big can a repeat be?

Just found a great wool to knit it in too.

Immediate download! It'd be great if you could have the option. Those of us in Australia would love not having to wait for the mail, and you'd save on postage.

Immediate download would be great. I was just thinking about your pattern the other day. I have some Socks That Rock cotton yarn waiting and it would be fun to start knitting them. We have a trip to St. Louis planned for the Fourth of July and they would be a good take along project. Thanks.

Immediate download. I have a high speed cable connection, so for me it's fast and easy. Also, I get very edgy waiting for mail deliveries (snail mail, that is).

I just stumbled across some sock yarn in my stash that I thought would be perfect as dragon scales socks. I'm so used to immediate download these days, but I think I could manage to wait for an e-mail.

As Strong Bad says... da email, da email, what?
I like the idea of you sending the file out over email the next time you're on the computer; I have a wierd thing with internet downloads where I imagine that I'm going to buy the pattern, print it, find the yarn, get gauge, and get cast on all in one night! So it's good for me to pace myself a little, and I like not giving the big company too many of our pennies.

Of course, if the socks take off you might find yourself swamped. So that's a caution.

What about The Knitting Vault (google!) - you don't get as much for your pattern, but it's not exclusive and you can choose to sell elsewhere as well....

Yay! Dragon scale Socks! *Dance* I suppose I could wait for an e-mail if it meant I would pay less. I"m just so excited!

I wouldn't mind waiting... Wonderful job on the stitching!

You know, my fellow cross stitching and knitting friend and I have always called Theresa Wentzler the Alice Starmore of cross stitch! :)

Kudos on finishing the bulk of the work. The back stitching will go faster than you think... And just think, when you're done backstitching a section, it is DONE! :)

I've been watching for the dragon scales pattern for a while. I'd be willing to wait for you to e-mail it.

I'm excited the pattern is almost available. Email would be fine for me.

Immediate downloads are swell, but I don't mind waiting a bit for an e-mail. Last time I ordered a pattern online I paid for it with PayPal and waited for snail mail...if I could survive that, I can certainly deal with waiting a day (or two) for an e-mailed pattern. We've been waiting long enough for the Dragon Scale socks that instant gratification probably isn't necessary, right? ;)

The cross stitch is fantastic!

Congratulations on hitting the milestone on your cross-stitch UFO, that is really incredibly awesome! Almost done, you can make it!

Have you decided what to do with it yet? Frame it and hang it in your workspace? It's so beautiful!
