My Castle Gets a Tail
I made another milestone on my cross stitch project this week: my dragon now has a fully completed tail.

Now all of the main picture is complete! All that remains is a bit of stitching around the bottom of the tail to suggest it rising out of the water, and a little bit of background scenery on either side of the dragon on the island. I'm beginning to feel like success with this project is in sight! Amazing what actually working on a project can accomplish towards getting it finished.

I can't turn away from a good macro mode shot opportunity. This picture is evidence of two things, however. 1) 22 count hardanger is not the right fabric to use if you are going to have to make a lot of half stitches 2) if you do use 22 count hardanger and have to do a lot of half stitches, at least your ugly stitches won't be all that visible because they will be very, very tiny.
This project is another project that will be going to Ann Arbor with me this weekend. Perhaps I will get all the cross stitching finished while I am there... and then I will get to move on to the true joy (NOT) that will be backstitching this bad boy.

WOW! You really have stuck to your goal of getting this one done. It is so beautiful. . . . .you are making me want to go through all my cross stitch stuff now. . . . Must resist as I have WAY to many knitting UFO's right now.
Thanks for the inspiration though.
Looking great. I transfer all my cross stitch gusto to you for the backstitching - my least favorite thing! :)
Beautiful. Tereza Wentzler is a goddess.... nobody could design that beautifully without some divinity in them . . . or sew it, for that matter. You're divine!
Looking good!! I can almost feel the pain in my fingers vicariously from jabbing the needle through the middle of the squares for those half stitches. Half stitches make the piece look great, but on Aida they always caused me such headache!
Want to finish my Fantasy Triptych next? ;-)
Wow, it is truly beautiful and you are making great progress! I've been thinking about picking up my cross-stitch again. In fact, my hubby brought back a kit with a dragon from England for me to make for him so yours is expecially inspiring. I am curious, what sort of frame is that that you are using? I don't normally use frames, but I'm thinking I should. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
My x stitch isn't moving along quite so quickly. Well, I think the main problem is that there aren't really any milestones to go by. Oh, and I REALLY need one of those frames you have.
Great progress :)
Beautiful work! Love the socks on your previous post, makes a nice effect with the twisting colors.
I used to frequently decide that all that backstitching wasn't necessary -- some was, of course, but there was always part of it that just seems superfluous! Your castle is really beautiful, by the way.
That's just gorgeous and I bow to your cross stitch skill. I tried it, but it made me crazy.
You gotta love Teresa Wentzler patterns. It looks fantastic.
The detail is incredible. Awesome work.
