Big Spinning Project

Roll music from the beginning of 2001, a Space Odyssey ... i.e. Also Sprach Zarathustra

The Great Tower of Moorit CVM Stands Proudly in the Fading Sun

This, friends, is the sum of all my recent spinning. One full bobbin of moorit CVM -- probably somewhere between 4 and 5 ounces. It feels like a towering accomplishment. This is my first WooLee Winder bobbin that I have filled completely.

And then I go back and look at what's left.

The Great Unchanging Ball of Moorit CVM

Sigh. Even after about 6 ounces (I've gotten a good start on the second bobbin now) it doesn't look much different than it did after I first got it. It keeps staring at me, just daring me to imagine how much yarn I can get from 2 lbs of roving.

Queue theme from Chariots of Fire... I've got a long race ahead of me.

(With apologies to those of you lacking either QuickTime or Windows Media Player)

P.S. Did you see all the cool things in the first issue of Yarnival!? I'm looking forward to really digging through it with my morning latte tomorrow!

That ball of CVM looks like Godzilla taking out (yourlaptop) Tokyo! :D

Also? Oooo pretty.

I was really laughing at this post and all of the musical choices to go with it. :) Yes, it is a towering obelisk of CVM, ok, maybe a towering blob, but I can't wait to see the plied goodness you get from it! I know it will be gorgeous! :)

It will be enough to make probably 2 sweaters, or one really cabled sweater and a really nice vest.

I love spinning large amounts of things. It gives the yarn such a vast potential of projects.

Your spinning is fantastic...so even...I will contain my jealousy!

The evenness of that bobbin amazes me. I've heard that those woollee winders are life-changing devices, and I can absolutely believe it!

It may look like just one bobbin, but think about how much is packed on that thing! That's like two of the bobbins that I spin on the Ashford. I wonder how much yardage you already have.

Holy heck! that's a lot of wool! Very nice spinning, by the way, but Wow! What a lot!
Let's see... if that were my spinning, by my calculations 2lb. of roving would yield... (bad at math) between 2400 and 3000 yards of two ply wool! Someone's spinning for a sweater?
Love the soundtrack.

Oh your post is making me so want to get back to my spinning. Hopefully when life calms down a bit, I can steal a few moments here and there, and make my wheel go round and round.

Yeah, see, this is what happens. We get all excited about fiber and buy way too much and then have to spin it FOR-EV-ER! Good luck. Oh, and love the soundtrack for this post.

I know a woman who has half of an alpaca in her home. Well, the roving, not like HALF of an ALPACA, but still. The pile of roving is the size of a medium sized dog, I don't know how she'll ever spin it all.

Coincidentally, today I was listing the roving I have in my house, and the poundage. I was having similar feelings...this will NEVER end. How can I buy more??

Your spinning looks beautiful.

I'm impressed not just that you have a plan to spin such a large amount up, but that its in such a neutral colour. Even spinning 200gms up I need some colour gradation to keep me amused.

Further, your bobbin is filled up lovely and evenly. Mine always have ridges on them.

Great job!
