Aloha from Kaua'i

| | Comments (12)

Well, after a few weather related issues that I will blog about at some other time, John and I are happily in Kauai. We are staying in a lovely rental home across the street from Kekaha Beach Park. Where in the world is that? Perhaps a little map image would help...

Kaua'i, Hawaii with our Current Location Marked

(Yes, I did just figure out how to include a Google Map on my blog just for this occasion. Why do you ask?

Our first day on the island was fairly uneventful. It included the usual shopping for things we forgot, grocery shopping and trying to find a place to have dinner. Not so many pictures yet, but I did get a gallery started. You can find my Kauai photo gallery here. I'm not as happy as I would like to be with the photo quality -- I think it's because I saved them at 72 dpi. I'll leave them at higher resolution tomorrow and see if that comes out better. I thought the gallery might make it easier for those of you who want to avoid large page loads to do so, at the same time as it makes it easier for me to upload and display a larger number of pictures from our trip. Please feel free to comment or otherwise entertain yourselves with the gallery. It will get much more entertaining soon. Unfortunately, my blogging time is being cut into by the need to finish up a work project. And the sooner I finish that project up, the sooner I can be to the business of some hard core vacationing!

I hope you are able to finish up that work and get to vacationing very quickly.

At least your surroundings are lovely. :)

Hard core vacationing sounds wonderful. Enjoy your time.

The gallery photos are lovely. I'll have to guess where you are, though, because the map doesn't show up in Firefox, Opera, or Safari. I'm on a Mac so I don't have IE any more.

Saving your photos at 72 dpi should be fine for posting on the Internet, you're probably compressing your images when you save them in your image editing program and then whatever site you use to upload is probably compressing them again...Happens to me all the time. Usually you can change the amount of compression on your image/photo software.

I highly recommend, if you get down to Poipu beach, going to Brennecke's for pupus and drinks. We also liked Keoke's which is in a mall near Poipu. And, of course, Roy's.

It cracks me up that in this view, Google has labeled the island as the Pacific Ocean. Have fun.

Well, it's been a long time, but I spent a nice long weekend on Kauai once. Beautiful island. I used to live in Kona on the Big Island, and have gone back a few times since, to visit friends. I always get a little nostalgic when other people visit and share pictures. Beautiful, isn't it? Enjoy! :-)

Great photos, especially those with the sunshine on the canyon. Your unknown flower looks like a passionfruit to me (at least that's what we call them in Oz) - was it a vine? Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

It looks a loevly place, just a pity that you had to take work along with the wheel. The above is a link to the cultivation of passionfruit (in NZ). My mother in law grows them in the not-tropics of Sheffield UK and they flower but she doesn't get fruit.
