Knitted Sunshine

| | Comments (33)

It's pretty much been the epitome of cold, grey and dreary here in Chicago for the past week or so. We've had cold weather mixed with rain or cold weather mixed with grey clouds that, were it just a touch colder, I would swear were snow clouds. If you've ever lived in a place that gets snow, you'll know that the clouds just get this sort of look about them when they plan to drop snow. And the clouds I see lately, they have that look.

Good thing I've made my own sunshine.

Knitted Sunshine in a Sock

Here's the beginning of the first Sloopy sock. It's a soft, dense fabric, and the striping is what I'd hoped it would be -- wide and well defined. I've got half an inch or so before I turn the heel. I can't wait to have happy orange feet!

those are great! way to take the plunge with your yarn. :)

There's nothing to match knitting with your own handspun!

I loved the yarn on the skein (my favorite colors!) and I love it even more in sock-form. The stripes are fabulous and they will be the cheeriest socks once finished. You're so talented!

Hey, I could do with some socks like that for the grey, clouds-nailed-to-chimneys winter days we get here. For that matter, as this is Britain, they'd be good in the summer as well.

They look really good. Well done you!

The yarn is like orange, softly heathered sunshine. Those socks invite you to slip them on. Nicely done!

I can't believe how gorgeous it is knitted up. It was so beautiful in all its previous incarnations and it just keeps looking even lovelier.

Better than I ever thought it'd be! Congratulations!!!! I can't wait to start spinning up some of my roving from Teyani. Now if only work would stop and my WooLee Winder would get here! I can't remember - did you 3-ply the yarn?

Cara said:

Decided not to be lazy and did some searching around - 2-ply. Thanks!

Oh my. Those are even lovelier than I imagined. Congratulations

Ooooohhh like a beautiful bright sunrise over the warm painted desert!!

It's beautiful! What a great burst of color on a dreary day!

You socks are turning out gorgeous! You were right to hang on and start them in plain-Jane stockinette. Anything with pattern would have detracted from wonderfulness that is your handspun.

That is so beautiful! I love how the stripes are working out.

Oh, I love it. Love love love. So bright and cheerful! :-)

It's been unnaturally warm in Boston, but some of that chill is supposed to migrate our way this weekend. Maybe that means your weather will improve a little. ;-)

I'm a transplant to the South and I've convinced my husband that I'm psychic just because I know what a snow sky looks like! It's a rare sight, unfortunately. Your socks look so soft! I spun a little of Teyani's Midnight Hour early this morning (leftover from spindle days) and I hope I saved enough for a pair of socks. It spins like a dream!

Oh. My. Lands. That is so beautiful!

Looks great! I will be buying some sock hop yarn some day...after I knit up all the sock yarn I currently own, or at least most of it!. I can't wait, I love how it stripes.

BTW, I finished another pair of "Family Socks." This pair is for my dad. The post about them is at http://knitting.xaviermusketeer.com/?p=781. And I've got another pair on the needles for my Grandma...should finish them this weekend.

You may call that knitted sunshine -- and truly it is -- but when I looked at that photo I immediately imagined the smell and taste of oranges and tangerines and especially Dreamsicles. Yum!

Emily said:

That sock is gorgeous! Almost makes me want to reteach myself how to spin so I can make some cushy handspun socks!

Oooh, it looks beautiful!!

I actually said "Wow" out loud sitting at home alone when I saw the picture. It's so beautiful!

Oh, that's soooo gorgeous! I've had the same problem with picking up the actual yarn and knitting something with it--it's so gorgeous, I want to do it justice.

You're inspiring me to pick up my "It Takes Two Baby" yarn and get to work! I can't wait to see how your socks turn out.
