The First Repeat of John's Blankie

With all apologies to John for anyone who would think that he would refer to any item of warmth production in his Den of Great Manliness as a "blankie", I present the first iteration of "Scallops" pattern of the Ab Fab kit. I find myself wishing that perhaps the darks and lights were not so concentrated (this is my own fault as I selected the ordering for the three mohair yarns and I didn't pay attention to the fact that the color order in the pattern was different from the color order in which the yarns were listed), but other than that, I think it's quite an attractive blanket, all things considered. I'm not going to suggest that it is stunningly masculine at this point, but so far it still seems to meet with the approval of he whose Den it will grace. Which is all that really matters.
What is amusing me most, however, is John's concern that something so light and airy (he means the mohair regions) could keep him warm. He's definitely suspicious of those holes produced by the yarn overs. I just keep telling him that it's mohair and that the "mos"* produce remarkably warm, airy fiber. He just raises one eyebrow and lets me keep on knitting.
* yes, I do know that mohair comes from angora goats and not some mythical creature called a "mo"...

It's beautiful! I have the Sedona colorway with about 12" done. It was a retirement gift and I've wanted one for some time. I really must get that finished.
I can see the eyebrow.
Just shift colors as you go along. Does he know what a mo looks like?
OK, I really like the Mos. They sound cute (like something that would snuggle in the crook of ones arm).
And how do we, err, *harvest* the Mos' hair? *g*
The manly blankie looks lovely.
Gorgeous...any den would be proud
Ahahah. The "mo" thing is hilarious. Thanks for the chuckle. The den blankie is beautiful.
Yes, mos are very warm creatures. He will be quite snug. It looks beautiful!
I think the holes actually work to make things like this warmer - they trap the air. Just like a lace shawl, this blankie will be plenty warm.
Tee hee. He's in for a surprise! Just wait till he finds out how toasty those holey bits will keep him.
I think he's manly enough to handle 'blankie'.
That is the warmest, most manly mancloth I've ever seen! And I've seen a few. {print that out and give it to certain husbands in the room}
Bless you... I love my husband, but I won't knit a blankie for anyone over 20 lbs! It's lovely, and such a nice thing to do.
Looking good! Those mos make me giggle.
i made a large airy mohair scarf for my mom once, and she's a bit of a "Knitoramus" (get it... knitting ignoramus, haha), TOTALY skeptical of the feather weight thing with the wide open holes. ohhh was she ever sorry when i proved her wrong! hah. your manly man will love it, i'm sure.
I've heard similar comments about lightweight alpaca garments. Folks used to wool -- or even cotton -- are tremendously skeptical about the warmth of anything that light. I say make him a heavy mo blanket and then when it's too warm, make him something lighter.
There was an old Rhymes with Orange comic about mohair. The punch line was "And there goes Mo now." - a cat or dog or something.
My friends and I talk about the mos too. And one of them is allergic so, for her, it's the hair of the dreaded Mo!
