Hotel Room Knitting

Wool Cotton Booties and a Canadian Icon

Booties are the perfect hotel room knitting. Small, fast and not so much finishing. Z now has her first pair of booties, and her very first knitted item from her mother. These are the "Textured Cuff Booties" knit out of Rowan Wool Cotton from Zoe Mellor's 50 Baby Booties to Knit. It's a quick and easy project since most of the knitting is on 4.0 mm needles. I'm not usually a sucker for tiny sweet things, but these booties make me happy as I imagine them filled with baby feet. Perhaps not her first booties (they are supposedly sized for a baby 3 to 6 months) but it seems like the wool content will make them a nice accessory when it gets a little cooler.

I'm glad y'all liked the belly shot from yesterday. I find my body right now to be both strange and amazing. If body image was strange before becoming pregnant, it's even stranger now as I alternate between feeling that I am not too big and then thinking I am completely enormous. And then I feel her move around and stop worrying about the getting large part. I've been feeling her move since about 18 weeks, and I just don't think I could ever get bored of the little reminders that John and I will soon be sharing our lives with a new small human.

Feeling the baby move is definitely the best part about being pregnant, I think. I missed that once Hannah was born. But then again, I got a baby in trade and that was a pretty good deal.

Your booties are adorable.
If I could share my favorite baby sock pattern with you. http://www.socknitters.com/PATTERNS/infant.htm
These socks are perfect for all your leftover sock yarn. I will often change the cuff area depending on amount of yarn I have. I have knitted several pair and often hear comments that these are the only socks stay on.
Congratulations!!

I think you've jinxed yourself and she'll be like my son and have enormous feet at birth. We pretty much skipped newborn socks and booties. One of the few things I missed about pregnancy was feeling him roll around.

I think what I miss the most about being pregnant was the freedom to do what I wanted, when I wanted. Need groceries? OK--keys, phone, wallet, lets go! Now the checklist is a bit longer--add baby, baby bag, are there diapers/wipes in the baby bag, does the baby look relatively clean (4 cats covers him with fur fairly quickly, especially when one will let him lay on her and try to eat her tail), well......we have enough for another day or two.....we'll put it off a little longer. And using the spinning wheel with someone who's fascinated by it, can be scary. You learn to stop the wheel one handed in a heartbeat.

Those booties are adorable! How much yarn did they use? I definitely need to get my hands on that book.

Very cute!

I still miss the full body rolls that my now 2 year old used to do. I do not miss the foot pushing up on my lungs, though.

After my first child was born, my body image changed completely. Where before, I had only seen the minor flaws in my body, afterward, all I could see was how utterly amazing my body was for having made a whole new person. I've never been bothered by my physical flaws since.

My last pregnancy was so long ago, but I do remember loving to feel my kids moving in me. And when they started hiccuping it was wild watching my belly. The booties are so cute, it is so fun dressing little girls.

You look great (and thanks for sharing). It is an amazing journey, isn't it? Cute booties! I have a feeling there will be lots of baby knitting in your very near future.

Ya know, your body will and does, what it's supposed to do. That silly body image ideal that society shoves down our throats is NOT what a woman's body is supposed to looks like!! Right now and in the coming months, your body is healthy and strong, it has to be, love it and know that.

I do know the feeling though, I gained 60+ pounds each pregnancy (per doctors orders) and some days you just feel like a beached whale and you eye width of doorways suspiciously ! LOL

20+ years since the last baby kicked....I remember it like yesterday.....mmmmmmm

You guys are so cute (I love the belly shot!). And I'm thinking about getting the booties book - glad to see that you like it so far.

Feeling the baby is definitely the BEST thing about being preggers.

My favorite thing about pregnancy was the release from my normal body image woes...and feeling so large and ripe. With #1, I remember thinking I was pretty awesome for not getting any stretch marks, then being brought down to earth when my husband said, "um, honey? You can't see the bottom of your tummy, can you?" I called 'em my racing stripes.

You look gorgeous! And the booties are divine!

You really summed up pregnancy for me, too. I had all these people telling me I wasn't very big and I was worrying that my 1st child would be so small (I was also measuring a little small at the dr's office) but at the same time feeling like a house compared to my normal self. The last month I swear I was a cartoon caricature of myself. Just when you thought you couldn't get any bigger, you do! ;) Enjoy it, though, because soon enough she'll be stiff-legged, red-faced and screaming her ever-loving head off about not getting a cookie after lunch. For 45 minutes. Straight. Sigh.

Feeling the baby kick was the only thing I missed about being pregnant afterwards. Enjoy it! I even had "phantom" baby kicks for a little while after.

How adorable! Those are lovely booties. You might find they fit sooner rather than later. They did with mine. She started out in 3 months sized stuff. None of the newborn stuff fit at all. Fortunately we were warned off it so the only things we had that were too small from the getgo were a couple of gifts. I might have to succumb to that book too despite the fact that I'm not having anymore kids. What the heck, maybe the nephew will get busy soon.

Cute Booties, I have the "2007 Knitting Pattern-a-Day Calendar" and the same pattern, only called "Grandma's Favorite Booties"
is the pattern for Sat/Sun - May 26 &27, 2007. I was thinking about making them and after seeing how nice your knit up, I'm going to knit them for sure.
And my luck, a friend just had a new grand Son born May 16th.
