The Seventh Star Block

In some ways, these quilt blocks are like candy. Everytime you finish one, you want to start another to see how it is going to turn out. The challenge now is making sure that the background and the star turn out to be complementary together -- and that I'm orienting the stars so that I don't end up with too many that have the same feel. I'd like each block to have it's own unique quality.
I'm back in Chicago now. Funny to think that I have probably taken my last out of town trip -- certainly my last airplane trip -- for a while. I did really enjoy Toronto and I do want to go back, but it's also nice to be home. It was really nice to sit on the couch tonight, prop up my swollen feet, and watch some things off the DVR while John got to feel the baby move. I feel like we're all supposed to be together right now. And it makes me happy that John wants to feel her move and share that part of the pregnancy experience with me.
And should you want to see a few more pictures of me in Toronto, Stephanie got some fun pictures of me and my bump with her sock -- I feel quite honored to have been able to pose with the sock, and I know that it must certainly be a good karma thing for Ms. Z.
To those of you in the states, I wish you a peaceful Memorial Day weekend with good weather and time to enjoy the things that make you happy. Is there anything nicer than a three day weekend in late spring? To everyone else I wish the same, but that you can get equally good mileage out of two days instead of three.

Thank you for the wishings! In Finland we had almost a four day weekend last week, since Ascension Thursday encouraged many people (including me) to take a day off on Friday. :)
Rest. Relax. Enjoy the long weekend and being...home.
p.s. You are beautiful! It's so nice to be able to go almost anywhere and be welcomed into a community of knitters.
It must feel good to be home. The pictures of you on Stephanie's blog are adorable.
Hi there! I just stopped by your blog via the Harlot. I love Zoe Mellor's book. Just about every baby that has been born around me in the last two years has a pair of duck feet. They are hilarious! Hope you enjoyed Toronto, a place I once called home.
I'm glad you were able to get away...and for knitting no less. I'm envious. Your belly looks gorgeous.
I'm not surprised about the Welcome sign, us Canadians are a friendly bunch. I love Zoe's book for baby knits, I still want to get the one for the booties, it's on the list. Hope your trip was great.
I love that star! Out of all the stars you've posted so far (and they've all been nice), this is my favorite. :)
I recently started my first quilting class and I am enjoying it so much. Thank you for all the photographs and information on quilting - it really inspired me to give it a try too.
The center of this star turned out so pretty!
That's my favorite star so far. It's the curvy blue and white stripe. That gives it great movement.
Congratulations on your Ms Z!
(I'm a once&again lurker, and found reference to you via Stephanie.)
I'm interested in seeing how you organize a new fiber toy / creative space for yourself in your office - with my own baby #2 on the way, I'm working on getting all my "extra" toys out of the regular living areas, and giving that space completely over to the kidlets.
*And your quilting is turning out beautifully!
I love the center of this star. How many weeks along are you? Was it difficult to travel? DH and I want to take a little trip somewhere before our 1st baby is born. We haven't figured out where yet.
o.m.g.
so jealous. again.
you got to see the harlot.
you got to hold the sock.
you got to go to toronto.
you got to go to lettuce knit.
and she posted you on her site.
not just one pic, but 2. count them. 2.
i'm in awe.
and those were great pics of you too/two! :o)
can't wait to see what you got while you were there!
and you got to have dinner with her too?
you are one lucky duck. :o)
have a great weekend!
How nice that you had a fun trip to Toronto. Traveling with children is very different than without. You'll have to give up at least half your yarn space to kid stuff for one thing. (I know, oh the horror!) But sometimes it works out just fine. Other times not so much. I remember one horrific trip with our daughter that I won't share with you since horror stories aren't nice. It totally can be done though. You just need to plan. You seem much better at that than I am so you'll probably be fine.
I'm really enjoying seeing all the star squares individually and (in a totally geeky way) am looking forward to see the whole.
Welcome back! Yes, I saw your pics on Yarnharlot's blog. Bump looks great and you are glowing!
I like this star the most so far! I'm having so much fun seeing new stars each day, it's eye candy every day! Knit Night looks like a lot of fun, too.

I have not had time to really blog hop in several months. I was looking at Harlot's blog today and saw your picture! I am overjoyed for you that you are expecting a baby! I know you went through a lot from when I was reading your blog more frequently and I have gone through a lot for my three miracles too, all born after age 35, so I'm saying a little prayer for you that all goes well and that you will be blessed beyond your wildest imagination! Congratulations! I love your blocks. I have always wanted to do a Stack and Whack quilt, they are so pretty. I better come back more often so I can see how it progresses. :o)
Hey, I have seen your site before, but somehow didn't realize that you, too, are in CHicago. Yay Chicago!
I'm so jealous of you going to Toronto. WEre you there for the Harlot, or for work? I got the feeling that the latter is the case. Glad you and the bump had a good time. :)
