A Little Bit of Finishing

Blocking a Lollipop

When you're a little bit activity restricted, some parts of the knitting process become a bit more challenging. Blocking is one such activity. Usually I am on my hands and knees on the floor pinning things down or leaning over a table with my blocking board on it. While I could probably get John to help me take pictures, asking him to block tiny sweater pieces isn't likely to work out so well. So I put my blocking board on the floor and sat down on the floor next to it and pinned things down. Not really bedrest, but nothing too aggressive either. I figure if I'm allowed to move around my house and fix myself lunch, this was probably okay too (and after I did it, I laid down and watched some TV... bittorrent might just be a mental health saver for me right now).

I'm not the only one doing some finishing work. My dad is working on his first sweater project and I got to give him some pointers about mattress stitch.

A certain baby is going to have a very nice hand knitted wardrobe, I think!

Oh it looks wonderful. The wee one is definitely going to be well dressed. Is your dad making you a rocker for the little one? I was thinking about that recently for some reason.

You have to admit that photos of John blocking tiny lacey sweater pieces would have been entertaining blog fodder.

I found the TV to definitely be a sanity saver while I was supposed to be "resting" at the tail end of my pregnancy. Now of course, everything is available on DVD or online or wherever so it's even easier to find relatively good quality fare for entertaining oneself. There's always Netflix too. A daily double feature would probably make the time pass relatively painlessly.

Nice blocking board by the way. Where did you get it? Or did you make it yourself? I got some foam squares but the gridlines would be really helpful I think so I think I need something similar.

That picture of your Dad is awesome! ANd with the blocking the bobbles on Lollipop are alot more obvious. Looks great! When I was on bed rest a really fun thing I did was to have a couple of girl friends over- they brought everything- and we just sat on the bed and ate and talked and hung out! Also, I found someone to come to the house to give me a mani/pedi. It was actually less expensive than going to a salon and I didn't have to get out of my jammies to get pampered.

Did you teach your dad to knit? If you did, that is about the coolest thing I've ever heard! I taught my sons, but they're too young to have the necessary stick-to-it-iveness. Your dad looks totally engrossed. Good for him!

Good on your dad! I tried to persuade my dad to take up crochet again (he learnt as a child), but he was having none of it!

Oh you are so brave blcking on the floor, when I last tried it for the baby blanket I got stranded like a beached whale LOL.

Now even more people will think your dad is the best one ever.

The dad picture is great.

I can't see that sitting on the floor is too much far off doc's orders.

How cool is that? A dad who knits. A dad who is knitting for your baby. And a dad who takes pointers about mattress stitch. Wowsa!

I'll just repeat what everyone else said -- your dad is so cool! And Lollipop is going to be adorable.

Watch terrible TV-all those shows that are quilty pleasures because soon, time flies, you will be watching only Maizey, the Wiggles, Muffy and assorted other Noggin, Disney, and Nick shows.
Did you hear that some "professor" at MSU thinks that Mr. Rogers is bad for kids-gives them the idea that they are all special??!! While I hate the idea of TV as a babysitter, a half hour break while Mr. Rogers spoke quietly to 3 toddlers(I know, 3, what was I thinking?) was heaven.
Hope the Bp is doing better and you are relaxed, peaceful and enjoying the attention bedrest brings from nervous husbands, friends, and family.

Yes, could you pls. describe the blocking board? I used to pin onto a mattress but would like to make a real board with gridlines.

Could we pretty please see a picture of your dad's sweater when it's all finished? I agree w/ Claudia; I think he really is the best Dad/Grandfather ever & a true Renaissaance man.
