Two Ounces of Limeola Superwash Merino Single

Buying a little fiber at the Michigan Fiber Festival does seem to have got my spinning pump primed again. One morning, while Z was sleeping, I pulled my spinning wheel into my office and pulled out the Limeola superwash merino that I purchased. As it turns out, spinning is a very nice, relaxing thing to do while keeping an eye on a sleeping baby. It didn't take me too many nap sessions to turn this first 2 ounces from roving into single.

When I started spinning this yarn, I didn't have a specific vision for it. It's a superwash merino, so I had decided that I would turn it into a 2 ply sock yarn, similar to what I have done before with the same kind of fiber, and then I'd make some socks to commemorate the end of the summer or something like that. As I was spinning, though, I got the distinct feeling that I was not the final destination for whatever would come out of this yarn. I was the one putting the twist into the fiber, the one who would turn a pair of singles into a two-ply yarn, but I wasn't the one who was going to take this yarn to the next level. I have an inkling of this project's final destination, but no idea of it's final incarnation.

Sometimes it's interesting how fiber talks to you when you're working with it.

The color is wonderful, and your single is so even!

I'm trying to squeeze into a spinning class myself this fall, since my solitary experiments with a spindle have resulted in something that I cannot call yarn (rather more lump chain or something like that). Hope to be able to make something like your limeola one day. :)

It is interesting how fibers let you know what they want to be and where they are going.

mmm green! so lovely.
i am wondering if you can spin with a baby on your lap? maybe strapped to you back?
i didnt learn til after tali was 14 mons, but she still wanted to sit on my lap at those moments.

What a beautiful color! I'm trying so hard not to get into spinning because I don't need to be obsessed with a whole new range of crafting purchases, but you sure make it tempting.

BTW, for what it's worth, back in the days when I used to babysit, one was supposed to let babies sleep on their tummies. that way if they spit up while asleep, they'd be less apt to aspirate anything. Maybe Z is just old-school cautious.

Hmm. There's a lovely green shawl in Victorian Lace Today, that's nearly that shade of green. Perhaps a small lace scarf instead?

Whatever its destination, I'm sure it'll be lovely because it is already.

When Hannah and Luke were a little older than Z (maybe 3 months or so), I would lay them across my lap after feeding them and burp them while I treadled my spinning wheel. The up and down motion helped them burp, and they would both fall asleep pretty quickly with the movement. I did figure out pretty quickly that I needed to put a cloth or blanket over them while I spun...Babies are VM magnets!

Hope things are going well for you and John and Z. Good to know you're spinning again!

That's an amazingly even bobbin.

Beautiful single. Gorgeous colors! I need to re-acquaint myself with my spinning wheel. I miss it. So, what do you think you are going to do with the yarn?

Such a cheerful green! I'm so sad I had to miss the festival this year, I'm sure it was heaps of fun!

Such a pretty colour!
I can tolerate my yarns talking to me; it's when they slap me silly I have issues. LOL.
