May in August

Cashsoft DK in Ballad Blue and a Swatch

I'm probably crazy to be knitting a little sweater in a wool based yarn in August. I ordered this yarn before I went on bed rest for May in the RYC Mother and Baby book. May is a little cropped cardigan that is just perfect for wearing over the "easy access" top. The cable detail is simple enough to make it easy to knit, but complicated enough to make the garment and the knitting interesting. Right now August has come on like gangbusters here in Chicago providing us with a lot of 90 degree weather, but fall is just around the corner and since my knitting time is unpredictable, starting now means that I might have it to wear when it starts to get a little cooler.

Ever since I knit Liberty, I've been in love with Cashsoft and Cashcotton. I know, Cashsoft is not exactly the most durable yarn, but it's a yarn I can actually wear against my skin, and those are pretty few and far between for me. I considered substituting the Cashcotton (which I think wears better) but in the end just liked the color options in the Cashsoft better. The Ballad Blue will go well with my wardrobe (especially with jeans) and the piece should be wearable beyond my nursing days.

Now if I could only get gauge!

That is just beautiful! And your mini shawl piece is gorgeous too. I love the color.

I have knit two sweaters (and other things) out of Cashsoft and have enough to knit FOUR more, plus a multitude of hats/scarves/etc. It is so, so comfortable and springy. It helps too, that it comes in great colors like Clementine (my next sweater..!)

If you are in weather less than 100 degrees and 100% humidity, it is NOT crazy to be knitting wool! Since I'm thinking you aren't in the SouthWest, you oughta be fine!
GORGEOUS color. And boy, am I envious of the deck it's on.

It's not crazy knitting in wool in the summer when the color is so convincingly cool. I could swim in it. :) I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's done.

A) baby is gorgeous, looks like Mom and has a lovely fashion sense...my daughter is gorgeous, looks like Dad and is 18 so there isn't much overlap with the conventional fashion world. She does like to have me make kind of wierd stuff for her--strange color scarfs and a balaclave (antifreeze from knitting) for winter cycling. Also mittens with the retractable covers and open fingers (cycling in winter again..) My useless advice: Enjoy baby, teenager to come...

B) I am really reluctant to knit with cotton because it doesn't hold up very well and all my storebought cotton sweaters (that I have stopped buying) get pulled out of shape so quickly. Is there a cotton yarn that is better than others....what about cotton mixed with other fibers? What is your overall experience?
