It Was A Week, Baby
You know, every time you turn around, your kid is getting into something. Hitting a new milestone. I'm not sure what milestone "sneaking onto Mommy's blog" qualifies for, but clearly I will have to keep a close eye on her to see if she does it again. And make sure I don't get any unexpected orders from Babies R' Us.
Both Z and I would like to say thank you for all your good wishes for my dad. His recovery was absolutely incredible. His surgery was early Thursday morning, on Monday afternoon, he wrote this email message:
Well it has been an an exciting week for me. I was riding my pedal bike on Monday of last week and I became dizzy so I got off my bike and promptly passed out. An half hour later I was in St Joe's cardiac ward. On Thursday morning I had a double by pass and had my aortic valve replaced and one of the good spin offs is I no longer have high blood pressure. And today I'm sitting in my chair at home with all my loved ones and pets. What a wonderful world it is.
My dad is always an inspiration to me for his outlook. He can go through unexpected cardiac surgery and still come home and be happy about the amazing technology that made it happen and the people and important things in his life.
Which is part of what helped get me through this week. In spite of a whole bunch of stress from work and baby-related issues that I won't go into (mostly because I've gone into them before and because they are pretty much the same issues all moms who try to juggle work and a newborn and their own needs run into), I have come to the end of the week realizing that I have a pretty good deal. A smiling baby who reminds me (even as she refuses once again to take daytime naps -- I suspect more developmental milestones are soon to be reached) that the job stuff is just job stuff and I can only do what I can do. A husband who listens when I talk about all the things that are making me crazy and takes on some extra baby time so that I can get enough things done to feel like I am not failing on all fronts. And my Dad, who, after an incredibly scary surgery, can come home from the hospital and see the good things all around him.

I love you Dad. Even when things are not exactly as we'd like them to be, it is, indeed, a wonderful world.

Awww...and how cute is SHE?!! I love your attitude - and your honesty about how parenting is a bit tough and stressful sometimes!
awe :)
That is such good news about your dad - and an excellent reminder to all of us that, as bad as it seems at times, there are still reasons to be grateful.
What a wonderful Z smile, too!
Good thoughts keep coming your and your father's and Z's way!
What a smile. You can't help but smile back!
So happy to hear that things went well! Z's looking more and more adorable, too! I'd heal up right away if I had those beautiful smiles of hers around me! ;)
So glad your dad is doing so well. He is indeed a great individual (as evidenced by his daughter & grand-daughter). Best wishes to you all.
make sure I don't get any unexpected orders from Babies R' Us.
At some point you will need to ask Christine about the Niblet's facility with a credit card... darn frightening, and the kid's not even three. "Let me sign!" Yeah, right, kid.
Call me sometime, when you're feeling up to it. We can swap work stories. Hang in there...

I'm so happy to hear the good news.
I'm hearing you -- my dad came down last weekend and said his oldest brother was going in for a quadruple bypass. On his (the brother's) birthday!
Well, I guess bypass surgery is a better birthday present than a heart attack.
I looked at Z's picture and thought, "And there's one of the good things now!"
Best wishes to your dad. I hope his recovery continues to be swift and uncomplicated. Isn't it wonderful that a person can be opened up, have vital parts replaced, and bounce right back to full health? I owe my life and the life of my youngest son to medical science and life-saving surgery, and I am grateful every day that we live in this time and place.
So glad to hear that your dad is doing better. It sounds like he had the best possible outcome and I'm sure his positive attitude is working wonders too.
Good news that your dad is feeling better. Amazing things they can do these days - and then they send you home right away!
Remember, someday you'll think back fondly on this time in Z's life when she's out late with a boy or giving you teenage fits. You need to put these sweet little smiles in the memory bank and withdraw them as needed.
Glad your family is doing well. Hope everything continues this way.
It is strange how we worry about people we have never met and how much joy we can find in a picture of an adorable baby that we have never seen in person isn't it?
Thanks for your blog, it is one of my joys.
Yeah! You are blessed! Great smiles from Z, and especially for her grandpa.
Well, thank goodness he's well - and I'm glad to hear that he doesn't have high blood pressure. Continued prayers for a speedy recovery coming his way.
You know, a month back or so Stephanie (yarn harlot) wrote a really beautiful post to mark her daughter's birthday. She talked about how she had to constantly remind herself that her daughter's qualities that gave her the most grief and trouble were the very same qualities that would make her a strong, independent adult.
You might have to take this up for Z too. ;-)
SO glad he is okay. And hello gorgeous baby!
I am so pleased that your dad's surgery went so well. My husband had a valve repair and triple bypass at age 48, and I know that I was more freaked out after the surgery than before. Tell you dad to take good care and listen to his docs (and the women in his life).
I'm so glad your Dad's surgery went well. In spite of the stress, it sounds like a pretty good week. How can it not be a good week with that beautiful Z smile. :)
That smile on that little face would cure the world! Glad your dad came through the surgery well. Will keep you all in my prayers...
Blessings!
Wow, that's great about your Dad's recovery. Twenty years ago, in his early 40s, my dad had a heart attack, but it took several YEARS in Ontario's health care system before he got a quadruple bypass. His recovery was not as quick! Best wishes for your dad's continued recovery!
(Oh, and not every kid gets vaccinations.)
