And Speaking of Lingering Projects...

20080810_StainedGlassScarf.jpgYep, here it is again, the Stained Glass Scarf that I started for John over two years ago.
This is far from the longest distance between start and end points for a project, but, at this proint, I can't even call this project half way finished!  However, since I have made notable progress since the last time I posted about it and it's finally beginning to look like something that could actually shield one's neck from the cold in winter, I thought I would provide the photographic evidence of that fact.

This project falls into the category of project where the results are beautiful, the yarn is fabulous to knit with but the knitting process gets intensely boring about one inch past the color switch and you hat the idea of giving it up when you've finally found a scarf that your husband actually indicates that he both likes and would be willing to wear.   I think when it's finished, it's going to be a wonderful scarf, but when I started it, I had no idea that the double knitting would take me so long to get through.  I get the whole knitting each row twice thing, but it still feels like I should be farther for all the time and knitting I've put into the darn thing.

Once my Kushu Kushu scarf is complete, this scarf will probably become the couch project.  Lord knows, if any project in my current rotation is stuck in purgatory, it's definitely this one.

It may be twice the work but it sure is a handsome scarf! I'm certain John will appreciate it whenever it's completed.

It looks lovely. Keep going.

Could you do both rows simultaneously, as long as you position the stitches and feed the yarn correctly? Options 1. Will it go faster? 2. Will it make you appreciate the other method more? 3. Is it possible? Seeing your picture makes me want to try it.

I'm in awe that you found anything at all your husband likes and is willing to wear (hand knit that is). My husband and I have a pact that I will not knit him anything to personally wear. He's just not that kinda guy. He is completely supportive of my knitting and design work, very interested in it and engages in conversations with me about projects ... he just wants his head and neck and feet and torso left out of the equation.

That is a very pretty scarf ... hope you get through it before too much longer.

I've never tried double knitting, although I think it's really cool, mostly because of the whole knitting each row twice thing. It's a lot like spinning two-ply (or, god forbid) three-ply yarn.

Beautiful scarf, though. It certainly looks like it's getting to a reasonable scarf length. I hope you can finish it up before winter.

I have really enjoyed the double knitting projects I've done, but it is notably slower than regular knitting. All of my double knitting (with the exception of the project I frogged a month or so ago) were much simpler than this and used bigger yarn.

I do love this scarf and would seriously consider making it despite how time consuming it is.
