While I consider the issue of buttons (right now, it looks like it is going to be either all black or all red, since I didn't find any other buttons that I liked when I went out button shopping today) and finish sewing down the button hole band and edging the button holes in buttonhole stitch, I'm working on a second pair of socks for Z. The yarn is "Sensations" Bamboo and Ewe Pattern (I believe Sensations is the Joann "house brand"). The yarn is 55% wool, 30% nylon and 15% bamboo rayon. The yarn has a nice hand, and I thought the colors were bright and cheery and perfect for a kid sock. So far, I haven't identified any clear pattern repeat, so these socks are going to end up fraternal -- which I don't think will bother Ms. Z.

Oh, I think black would be great with that zebra stripe st the bottom. It's a beautiful sweater.
I always have to wonder when sock yarns are supposed to have pattern repeats. I can't imagine how big those socks would have to be before a repeat would appear!
What about painting wavy stripes on black buttons. Anyway, it's going to be really sharp-looking.
Cute sock. I just made some baby socks for a coworker. Fraternal socks don't bother me but I didn't know how she would feel so I pulled and pulled until I found the repeat. I guess on bigger socks it would have shown up halfway down the cuff.
I was just looking at that yarn today when I stopped by Jo-Ann's. There was a huge swatch showing the "pattern" of the yarn. I like the funky striping and colors.
Someone on etsy had zebra buttons for sale - I think they were about $6.50 for 5 but 11/2" (can someone tell me how to do a nice one half on the Mac like you can do on Windows by holding down alt & typing 159 - I really do NOT like the Mac) which might be too big. Sensations is the Joann brand yarn & I have seen a couple of nice ones at far out (Naperville) stores but not the sock yarn which looks nice. They also caryy Deborah Norville's yarns & her sock yarn is lovely - a soft wool/bamboo blend that comes in a few nice colorways. Don't know how it will hold up. I haven't knit it yet.
