Rainbow Gamp Warp

It appears I'm not doing too well with Wednesdays lately.  But at least I can brighten up Friday with the warp from my next weaving project.

20100121_ColorGampWarp.jpgThis is the beginning of a color gamp blanket project.  It will be 40" wide by 50" long and will use a huck lace weave structure.  I'm warping it from the back, and what you see here is inch wide units of 3/2 cotton yarn getting ready to be pulled forward in preparation for threading the heddles.  I'll be doing this project on an AVL dobby loom -- which has me completely geeked out because it's as if weaving and computers have intersected in one project.

Next week I hope to get the heddles threaded and to start sleying the reed.  I can hardly wait to start weaving on this project and to watch all the different color combinations come together !

I'm looking forward to this project come to live almost as much as you are! I really wish there were a few more options for my rigid heddle. I know there is more I could be doing with it, but I haven't done nearly the playing with pickup sticks or a second heddle as you have.

No idea what any of that meant, but ooohhh... pretty!

The colors are really beautiful. I can't wait to see the finished effect.
The process all sounds pretty complicated and incomprehensible, but then, so much does at the outset.

beautiful "promise", hasn't it??? I simply *adore* things rainbowed! Crochet lots of afghans in variants of 'em. Your newest weaving project looks to be absolutely glorious! Please, please, please keep us posted, thanks! Wouldja consider having a raffle or somesuch for the finished project???? sigggh.. yeah. "as if" I *need* the lovely thing.... um, well, yeah! (grin) We all need beauty in our lives.

I'm trying to hard to resist the urge to start weaving, and you're not helping!!! I can't wait to see this when it's finished. I love color!

I love the rainbow of colors. I think it is just what it is needed in these dreary days of winter.

This is beautiful, in and of itself!

This is beatiful in and of itself!

Dobby looms are so awesome. Computers actually did evolve from looms, you know--have you ever seen the old BBC show "Connections"? There's one episode that traces that history, it's really fascinating.

Ah, another scientist satisfied by ROYGBIV. Seeing all the colors in a "proper" sequence just makes me happy.
