A post on a Wednesday. Amazing, eh?
With the start of John's foray into Mass Effect 2, I've decided to start another pair of socks for him. These are in garter rib (which is a delightfully easy pattern to knit with given the satisfying results it provides) using the cashmere blend Sophie's Toes that I purchased a little while back. The colorway is "Walnut". I have never liked knitting with brown yarn so much! Isn't the variation beautiful? And I'm having a hard time seeing much in the way of noticeable pooling. While I have a nice little cache of Emily's yarn in my stash, this is the first project I've started on with it. This cashmere blend also contains nylon in addition to the merino content -- soft and tough. Perfect stuff for the husband man, and pretty nice for the knitter as well!
(A few minor details for posterity... socks are knit on US size 1 needles and are 64 stitches around).

Those are lovely socks. I just (re)discovered garter rib last night and can't wait to get a pair of socks on the needles for my husband. Currently doing twin rib socks for my brother, but that isn't quite as much fun.
The color of that yarn works beautifully with that pattern. Quite lovely!
Those socks are going to be great! The color is wonderful - soft, but firm at the same time - nice manly traits, and the pattern is very effective. Not sure what garter rib is. Is it ribbing one row, and knit the next row? In this case 2x2? Obviously, it is a great stitch for socks.
Semisolid brown with a hint of pewter and a lovely texture pattern - doesn't get much better in my book!
That is a gorgeous bit of brown. I love how there are little spots of navy and other colors without diminishing the entire brown effect.
Mmm, scrumptious pattern, yarn, growing WIP. Neat!
That is yummy looking yarn. I have become fond of mistake rib for socks. It is super easy to remember & makes for a very interesting pattern that looks far more complicated than it is. It also looks good with solid colors or just about any kind of variegation or patterning. Maybe I'll try garter rib next time.
